Both EnviroStip ® and Aerostarch Systems clientele include some of the world's leading aircraft and component manufacturers.
Boeing-ASTA, Melbourne, Australia
Aerostarch Systems recently supplied the Boeing-ASTA facility in Melbourne with a custom made automated blast room stripping system built by USF Schlick GmbH. This system provides wheat starch stripping technology using EnviroStrip ® wheat starch media.
The Boeing-ASTA installation is a one-nozzle system employing a 6-axis Fanuc robotic arm suspended from an overhead gantry. The process is contained within a blast room enclosure measuring 11m in length x 5m in width x 4m in height (36 ft x 16 ft x 13 ft). This automated blast room can accommodate the largest composite structures such as elevators and flight controls.
EnviroStrip ® wheat starch 30/50 is currently being used to remove the coatings from Airbus A330 and A340 landing gear doors. A Tedlar® coating and polyurethane topcoat, found on the inner side of these doors, is removed with wheat starch. In accordance with an Airbus approved composite repair procedure, a wide flat nozzle is used at low pressures of 30psi (2 bar) and a constant angle of 45 degrees.
The Boeing-Asta facility is the third "automated" system installed for wheat starch stripping. The other two which employ similar technology are the Aerospatiale-MATRA Airbus repair station in Nantes, France and the French Air Force installation in Cuers, France.
